Listening first, observing second, photographing last.
My story
I’m Jasmine Louise, an Australian photographer based in Northern Tasmania, with a lifelong love of wildlife, nature and quiet moments outdoors.
I grew up in a small, bushy coastal town in South East Queensland, where animals were my first fascination. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a documentary and wildlife photographer, though it felt like something that might only happen much later in life. At the time, wildlife photography gear was bulky, expensive and far less accessible than it is today.
I studied photography at South Bank TAFE in Brisbane in 2011 and 2012, before spending many years travelling across Australia, New Zealand and other countries, photographing weddings and portraits. While I loved working with people and telling their stories, nature was always pulling me back.
In 2019, after working in Landcare and deepening my understanding of native flora and fauna, I made a significant shift and traded in my wedding gear for equipment better suited to bush photography. From that point on, my work became slower, quieter and more observant. I began spending long hours in forests, wetlands and remote landscapes, photographing and learning the ecology of my subjects rather than simply documenting them.
This often meant getting low and looking closely. Tiny native orchids hiding beneath leaf litter in Wallum heathlands, or growing on tree trunks in rainforest, became just as important to me as larger, more familiar wildlife. In Far North Queensland, I gained the nickname “Tree Kangaroo Whisperer” after repeatedly spotting animals others had missed. Often I sensed them before I saw them, guided by subtle signs in the forest and an unusually strong sense of smell.
In 2020, my life changed again after becoming seriously unwell, triggered by a mosquito borne virus and later scrub typhus while photographing wildlife in Far North Queensland. I did not recover as expected and had to step away from physical conservation work and the native plant nursery I loved. Photography remained my anchor, and I began editing photographs for other photographers while continuing to document the natural world at my own pace.
In 2023, I learned about my biological father and his lifelong love of photography and native plants. This discovery felt grounding and extraordinary, and helped me understand why this connection to nature and image making had always felt instinctive.
In 2025, I was diagnosed as AuDHD, autistic and ADHD. This brought clarity and compassion to the way I understand myself, my creativity and my heightened sensory awareness, all of which shape how I work and how I move through the natural world.
Today, I am finishing a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Environment and Conservation, combining ecological understanding with visual storytelling. My work focuses on wildlife, landscapes and small, fleeting moments, photographed with patience, respect and a deep appreciation for presence rather than pursuit.
Prints and Products
All fine art prints are produced in Australia and printed on demand or in small batches to minimise waste. My greeting cards, calendars and gift products are designed, printed and made locally in Tasmania, also in small batches.
Each piece is created with care for the environment, the subjects I photograph and the people who bring my work into their homes.
